Privacy and Data Use

This notice covers the MESC Labs website and the separate data-processing behaviour of the UN-AVOIDS research service.

The website

What the public website may receive

The hosting service may create standard technical logs containing information such as an IP address, requested page, date and time, browser type, and user agent. These logs support security, reliability, and troubleshooting, independently of your optional analytics choice.

Optional website analytics

Google Tag Manager is used to load optional Google Analytics measurement on public information pages only after you select “Accept analytics”. Before acceptance, or when you decline, this installation does not load Tag Manager or Google Analytics. It is disabled in local previews and the interactive VAAD and DVP research applications.

When an Analytics tag is configured in Tag Manager and you accept, Google may receive page-visit and device/browser information and use analytics cookies to distinguish visits. This helps us understand which pages are useful. Advertising consent remains denied; this installation does not enable advertising tags, Google signals, session recording, or collection of form contents. Page-address query strings and fragments are excluded from the measurement defaults, and referring addresses are reduced to the originating website.

Your choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. You can change it using “Analytics preferences” in the footer. Declining after acceptance removes accessible standard Analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop further measurement; it does not undo data already sent. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice may need to be made again on another page.

Google processes analytics information under its own terms and privacy practices, which may involve processing outside Canada. Read Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from partner sites. Contact us below with questions about your information.

UN-AVOIDS research service

How the research service processes data

UN-AVOIDS is separate from ordinary browsing of mesclabs.com. The following disclosures apply when someone uses that research service.
  • Data selected on the user’s device is sent to a remote server for processing in NCDF space.
  • Processed data—including NCDFs and scores—is not stored by the service and is promptly discarded after processing.
  • The service integrates only the custom API required for its operation.
  • Users are responsible for ensuring that they have the rights and permissions needed to submit any data they choose to process.
  • D3.js is used to provide data visualizations in the interface.
